After more than 10 years, the campus is updating its brand’s visual identity to better communicate the connection between Berkeley and Cal.

What is the current status of the brand?

As of Tuesday, May 21, the brand refresh has been implemented at an institutional level (berkeley.edu, news.berkeley.edu, social media profile photos). All other instances of the brand remain unchanged.

A new toolkit will allow the Berkeley and Cal identities to coexist in an interconnected ecosystem.

Effective immediately, registered student organizations and other recognized student groups will be allowed to register groupname.studentorg.berkeley.edu subdomains for their organizational websites. Campus units will continue to be allowed to request top-level (unitname.berkeley.edu) subdomains.

Today we’re announcing a set of modifications to our brand architecture system.

The primary objective of having a brand architecture system is to provide clarity about the Berkeley brand and to help standardize its application. We attempted to keep the basic structure of the lockup architecture intact, and to be as least destructive as possible in the process of solving the issues at hand.
