“Fluent in the Future”
New “Fluent in the Future” banners were installed this month across campus, adding fresh energy and visibility to the university’s ongoing campaign celebrating research excellence, public mission, and global impact. From Bancroft Way to Oxford Street — and coming soon to major airports across the Bay Area — the banners are designed to meet people where they are, sparking curiosity and pride in the work happening at UC Berkeley.
Why fluency?
With instruction in more than 60 languages, UC Berkeley ranks among the top U.S. universities for language education at an unparalleled scale. But fluency at Berkeley goes beyond language — it’s about mastering the skills, knowledge and adaptability needed to lead in an interconnected world. Our students and alumni are fluent in entrepreneurship, in startups, in social mobility, in climate solutions and in global leadership. They graduate prepared to work and innovate anywhere, with the linguistic and cultural agility to thrive across continents. This campaign affirms UC Berkeley’s presence not only as a world-class research institution, but as a public university deeply engaged with the challenges and possibilities of our time.
The campaign was conceived in partnership with the Division of Arts & Humanities and with participation from UC Berkeley Law.

Join the campaign!
The “Fluent In…” campaign has the potential to grow beyond light pole banners, and we encourage campus units to participate in the campaign by extending the messaging and visuals into digital, print, and social media channels. To support this effort, a set of branded Adobe Illustrator assets—including background patterns and a customizable tagline graphic—are available for download. These design elements can be used to align your unit’s messaging with the broader campaign while allowing for flexibility in showcasing your unique programs, initiatives, or impact. It’s an easy way to highlight how your work fits into the bigger UC Berkeley story — whether that’s being fluent in data science, public service, design, or anything else that makes your unit stand out.
