Our university typeface, Freight, features Sans, Text and Micro fonts. The Freight family was selected because it is warm, open and legible at all sizes. Flexibility comes from using one type family that contains all necessary styles.
Download information for accessing Freight using the Creative Cloud desktop application. Designed specifically for a wide range of uses, the Freight family performs well online. Freight is free for use on websites created using Open Berkeley or our new brand web templates. The University has an institutional font license covering these sites. If you are building a website using some other platform, you will need to enter into licensing agreement with Typekit in order to use Freight fonts. The basic cost runs $8 per month (1M page views per month). If your department needs more page views, Typekit has business plans to fit your needs
Alternative Web FontOpen Sans is recommended as the free web font alternative to Freight Sans. Commissioned by Google and optimized for web and mobile interfaces, Open Sans has excellent legibility characteristics in its letterforms. Like Freight Sans, it is a humanist sans serif typeface with a friendly appearance. Open Sans is downloadable free of charge at Font Squirrel.
